A Research Varsity -The Institute of Trans-disciplinary Health Sciences, was launched in Bangalore on 19th January 2014. it is housed within the 17-acre campus of the Foundation for Revitalization of Local Health Traditions.The Varsity will integrate traditional medicine and modern medicine to create new knowledge and also reduce the cost of health services.
Sam Pitroda, father of Telecom revolution in India and currently Adviser to the Prime Minister on Innovation, is the Chancellor and Darshan Shankar a well known Scientist and Environmentalist, is the Vice Chancellor. The varsity has documented literature about 6,500 medicinal plants and the next step for them is to create science out of shlokas.
Over time, the Founders would like to make this an Institute of excellence, like the IIT of Traditional Medicine; hopefully; some day there will be a Nobel Prize winner in Traditional Medicine emerging from the campus too.
