The Art of Understanding Hindu Rituals

There are dime a dozen books in the market that can catalogue the various rituals and oblations every devout Hindu has to perform on a daily basis. You can follow them verbatim and day in and day out carry on performing umpteen rituals mechanically without understanding as well as appreciating their very meaning and significance.

Only a very few books explain the underlying rationale behind the rituals, giving the performer a perspective of why he/she is doing something. “Sampradaya” – A Tribute to Tradition, by Arunji, a banker turned Theologian and a Senior Faculty in Art of Living, is one such gem. Released during the Incredible India Campaign in Beijing, Sampradaya talks more about the ‘why’ and less about the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of Hindu traditions and rituals. It is a book designed for every enquiring mind. It talks about our traditions in a not-so traditional style. Easy-to-read and at the same time elegant prose makes Sampradaya simple as well as scintillating. It is equally handy, slim and affordable. Priced at Rs.100, its value is beyond measure! Overall, it is a real family treasure.

Incidentally, Sampradaya is not just another book you can find in any and every book shop. Designed as a collector’s piece and meant for a discerning audience, it is available with me in limited numbers. Should you desire to have a copy of it, please contact me.
