Thaen Amudham Satsang at Thanjavur Brahadeeswara Temple

Thanjavur, 27th Dec 2014

It was an experience beyond words for the satsangees at the much renowned Southern heritage of Brahadeeswara Temple. The evening was made interesting when many tourist pilgrims from varied parts of the world stopped and began to sway with soul stirring bhajans. Young Perumal,a talented visually challenged musician made the evening more special. His breath danced gracefully through the little holes of the flute.

The un-seasonal drizzle of flower- like rain drops that began at the end of the session perhaps symbolized Mother Nature's pleasant response to the musical offering.

The peace and happiness of invoking Lord’s blessings in the temple with Arunji’s soul tickling bhajans cannot be expressed in words. The Temple Administration was happy and appreciated our presence saying it’s been ten years since such programs happened. Many people enjoyed the satsang extending their devotional moments to the musical treat. Foreigners who were on tour froze their moments listening. Some of them who had visited Lord Vishnu’s temples earlier raised the question on better maintenance of Vishnu temples compared to Shiva temples. I replied saying that Vishnu is well off as he is wedded to Lakshmi, Goddess of wealth. Needless to say, she is the MahaMaya who drags us into the worldly illusions.

They were interested, and inquisitive as the magical vibration of Arunji’s ‘Parameshwaraya’ reverberated across the temple taking many souls to the state of Dhyaana. Some foreigners asked me for the meaning of the song. I told them that we just called out different names of Lord Shiva. The next natural question was “What did you ask for?” for which my witty reply was “The Lord knows what to give”.

The beautiful evening has come to an end, but the drizzling has not.

Every AMC of Arunji carries uniqueness. The recently concluded retreat at Tanjore was no exception with memories of a grand Satsang held at the legendary Brahadeeswara Temple, popularly known as the Big Temple.

Arunji had prepared us with an intro of the temple for the benefit of out- station participants. Built by Emperer Raja Raja Chola, more than 1000 years ago built entirely with granite. The nearest place where granite could have been mined is 60 kms. It is amazing to think about the logistics that might have been used to transport the granite stones. The apex bulbous structure of vimana was carved out of a single rock weighing around 80 tons. The Nandi was carved out of a single rock measuring about 16 feet long and 13 feet high.

Satsang was conducted with the Nandi as a backdrop in a divine ambience with thousands present. Every one of us felt the blissful positive vibes. I was fortunate being the spectator in this blissful event.

Returned home with very useful take always. One such interlude provided by Sri.Ravvichandran when he said that while we are driving, we have two options. (a) We will reach the destination uneventful – without repair or road blocks or (b) With incidents. Beyond the two dimensions of Mind, there could be a Third dimension (as outlined by Shri. Arunji) that we will proceed with driving without taking any stand either positive or negative staying neutral with a mental preparation to take on challenges, which may come enroute. This state of mind will enable us to be stress free. The sacred connect between Seva and Meditation was nicely explained to us by Sri. Asokanji.

The prasad was traditional, being a native of Trichy with roots in Tanjore Dist, enjoyed the awesome, yet simple food.My sincere thanks to Shri.Arunji and the Tanjore team for this valuable experience.
